  • The Wivey Walkers organise two walks each month, and anyone is welcome to come along- there is no membership or charges. On the first Wednesday of each month there is a walk from Wivey Square at 10.00am, or a local walk using the bus to take us to the start, and walking back. A Saturday in the middle of the month sees us going a little further afield, car sharing from Croft Way car park, typically to the Brendon Hills, Exmoor, the Quantocks, and the Blackdowns. Again, we leave at 10.00am.

See the Walks Programme PDF on the left, or the Events section for more information about the walking programme and bus walks. The programme is also displayed on the notice boards in the Square, which also has one complete board showing the footpath network around Wivey, including the 26 mile circular 'Wivey Way'.

We are a friendly, informal group , who generally walk at a moderate pace whilst chatting. Our organised walks are covered by public liability insurance, but we do ask all walkers to sign a form accepting personal responsibility. That form 'Disclaimer' is on the left as a PDF, which you can open and print. Please sign and date it and bring it along the next time you join us for a walk. Add your email address if you would like to be kept up to date about walks.

If you have a favourite walk you would like to share with others, do get in touch. We're looking for new walks and leaders.

  • COVID-19 update

    14 August 2020

    Dear Wivey Walkers
We are very happy to say that the steering group has decided to re-start our walk programme from the beginning of September. Walks will be on the first Wednesday and middle Saturday of the month as before but it will come as no surprise that in other respects things will be different. We will have to be conscious of the need to follow government advice and to act responsibly in the best interests of all.
In particular, the numbers of walkers will need to be limited and it will be necessary to book in advance with walk leaders and receive confirmation from them before before joining a walk. Please do not just turn up on the day. Leaders will keep waiting lists so if you do need to cancel please do so as soon as possible so your place can be given to someone else. Car sharing should be kept to a minimum and walkers will need to physically distance from anyone not in their household.
Please discuss any issues with walk leaders and when we know how things are going we will update you all with any changes. If we find the programme is consistently oversubscribed, leaders may be willing to offer additional walks on other days.
Here we go ! Please keep an eye on the website. The new programme will also be emailed to you as soon as it has been completed.
    All good wishes
Margaret, Thelma, Mike, Diana and Julie

    Update 26 August 2020

    Dear Walkers

Our new programme for September to December is  now available.

We would like to remind everyone again that it is necessary to book ahead and receive confirmation from walk leaders before joining a walk. Please also be mindful of the need to socially distance from anyone not in your household at all times. This includes minimising car shares so please make your own arrangements in advance if you do wish to travel with someone else. If transport is a problem for you please speak to the leader.
Finally, if anyone does become ill after a walk, please again, inform the walk leader or any member of the steering group as soon as possible.

Other than all that - lets get underway !

Very best wishes for good walking,

Margaret, Thelma, Mike, Diana and Julie

    Update 16 September 2020

    Dear Wivey Walkers
Despite the somewhat complicated information issued over the past few days, we have come to the conclusion that we are able to follow new guidance issued by the Ramblers Association after the recent government announcement and continue to run our programme of walks in its present form for the foreseeable future.
Our first walk was fully booked and much enjoyed by all participants. Please note that the next Wednesday walk to be led by Penny on October 7th will leave from the Jubilee Seat on the edge of the nature reserve at Langford Budville at 10.00am and not 10.30 as on the programme.
Finally, as everyone is probably aware, we are one of few walking groups that welcomes dogs on most walks. This continues to be the case but in view of guidelines from organisations such as the Kennel Club and the NFU, the steering group has taken the view that not only must dogs be under control, and on leads when necessary, but also that owners should be prepared to pick up after them at all times.

    Happy Autumn walking everyone.

Margaret, Thelma, Mike, Diana and Julie
