Wiveliscombe Area Website

An informal group which meets in The Square on the first Wednesday of each month, and Saturday mid-month. Please check the Town notice board in The Square for details.

The Saturday meetings take place in the Croft Way car park for car sharing to enable exploration of the Quantocks, Exmoor and the coastline, etc.

The group was started in 2001 to encourage local people to walk and keep the footpaths open. Initially there was one circular walk beginning in Wiveliscombe Town Square and exploring the immediate area. There are now two walks each month.

In September 2009, Wiveliscombe became the first town in Somerset to achieve Walkers Are Welcome status, confirming our reputation as a place for visitors to come to enjoy the outdoors. See the Walkers are Welcome website (http://www.walkersarewelcome.org.uk/) for more details of this scheme.

A Book - Wiveliscombe Circular Walks

A book of eleven circular walks, based from Wiveliscombe Square, has been published by Wiveliscombe Parish Council. Wiveliscombe an ideal base for walking and is situated in Somerset, 11 miles from Taunton, in the Brendon Hills. These form the foothills of Exmoor National Park. It is close to the Devon border and Quantocks, and a gem of an area in this little known part of the West Country.

The longest walk is the 23 mile "Wivey Way" which can easily be completed in shorter sections, by earlier returns to The Square. There are 10 other walks varying between 1 and 7 miles long, which include the town itself and the surrounding countryside.

This book, which is specifically designed for the keen walker, is spirally bound in A5 format to fit the pocket and has water-resistant covers and pages. Each walk is easy to follow using the detailed instructions and maps. Points of interest, and line drawings add considerably to the presentation of the book and the walker's enjoyment.

The books ISBN is: 978-0-9552851-0-0
