Wiveliscombe is twinned with Le Lion d'Angers, a charming town in the Loire Valley of France. Le Lion d'Angers is also twinned with Bad Buchau in southern Germany and Nivnice in the Czech Republic.
Visits between Wiveliscombe and Le Lion d'Angers take place in alternate years. In May 2011 our friends from Le Lion d'Angers and Bad Buchau arrived for a four day visit. As usual, there were plenty of activities and days out arranged, including an afternoon in picturesque Dunster, an excursion to Bristol historic Harbourside and a guided tour of the local Gundenham Dairy, near Langford Budville. For those more interested in fine ales than milk and cheese, a visit to Cotleigh Brewery was organised which, of course, included the obligatory tasting sessions! Hosting families often join our visitors for the outings, although this is optional for those busy during the day.
The twinning association has a friendly and enthusiastic membership of families of all ages. The emphasis really is on having fun and enjoying the company of our European neighbours. In May 2012 it is our turn to visit Le Lion d'Angers. New members are always welcome.
