Wiveliscombe is twinned with a charming town in the Loire Valley area of France, Le Lion d'Angers.

The link commenced with a school exchange, and their Council then approached our town to see if we were interested in wider links. At the public meeting to discuss the proposal our only concern was that interest might fade after a few years and lead to embarrassment. Small parties visited each other's towns, and in 1985 we formalised the arrangement. There was no need to worry about interest fading - some families have kept in touch throughout the period, and visit outside the group visit, they have almost become 2nd families.

Every year we are pleased to welcome new members. Our largest group was 100 arriving from Le Lion in 2 coaches, and we prided ourselves that we had no difficulty in finding hosts for everyone.

The next visit will be from 16th to 20th May 2007 when in addition to a party of about 70 from Le Lion d'Angers we look forward to receiving 6 visitors from one of their other twin towns, Nivince, in the Czech Republic. The theme of the visit will be "Sustainability" which will include a seminar to which all local Organisations and interested visitors will be welcome.
