Wiveliscombe Primary School caters for children between the ages of 4 and 11 years
of age who live in
Wiveliscombe or one of the surrounding villages.
The school's Standard Number (the number of places available in each year group) is currently 34. The school is situated on the outskirts of the small rural town of Wiveliscombe, near the Somerset/Devon border. It is housed in a very attractive Victorian building and offers spacious accommodation with a real sense of character.
The original 1876 school has been extensively modernised and refurbished, and has listed building status. There is a large sports field, complete with an adventure playground built by the PTFA, and a flourishing conservation area. The school is well resourced and offers a friendly, happy and stimulating environment in which children can grow and learn together.
All classrooms have interactive whiteboards connected to the internet, and there is a 20 station computer suite for use by all classes. In recent years a new school hall and early years block have been built on the site, and a new extended schools' room is planned for Summer 2008.
The 2007 OFSTED inspection report described Wiveliscombe Primary School as a good school with an outstanding curriculum. The school has links with schools in Zambia and New Zealand and has been awarded the intermediate International Schools Award. The high quality arts provision in the school is recognised throughout the area, and the school has applied for 'Artsmark Gold' status. Children are encouraged to take part in a wide range of extra curricular activities, including sports and music, and every child is given the opportunity to take part in at least two residential visits whilst attending the school.

At the age of eleven, most children will transfer to Kingsmead School, our local comprehensive school. There are strong links between the two schools and a great deal of liaison takes place to ensure that the transfer is as smooth and stress-free as possible for all involved. Staff from Kingsmead visit our school and the Year 6 children take part in a number of events at Kingsmead to familiarise them with their new school.
