Wivey Link has been going places with the people of the 10 Parishes and their surrounding areas since 2004. From the time it was set up as a community transport to combat rural isolation, it has grown steadily. Inaugurated as a Charity in 2009, its presence is an essential part of the community in which it serves. In January 2010 after an intense period of fundraising, we were delighted to take delivery of two new Peugeot people carriers. Another replacement Toyota Yaris was also purchased in May 2011.
Running weekdays and some weekends, Wivey Link provides a lifeline for those unable to access transport for what ever reason. We are not just for medical journeys to hospital or for those with disabilities, but for anyone of any age needing to get from A to B. The service is available to all residents in the area. Our volunteer drivers are the backbone of the service, keeping two wheelchair accessible people carriers and one smaller car on the road every day, where and when possible.
A regular Wivey Link Newsletter is issued to all registered customers with updates and useful general information on the service.
All passengers must pre-register. The current registration fee is £8.00 per year. Fares are very reasonable and are charged at half price if you have a bus pass. Unfortunately, same day bookings cannot be taken as the schedules will have been planned on the previous day. You must telephone before 11.00am if you wish to travel the following day. It is always advisable to book as far ahead as you can to avoid disappointment.
Transport can be arranged for Monday to Friday, normally between the hours of 9.00am to 5.00pm, subject to availability. Earlier or later times can be undertaken by prior arrangement with the Wivey Link office.
There are occasions when Wivey Link can offer special day trips which will need to be pre-booked through the office. These are advertised well in advance in the Wivey Link Newsletter and will always take place at weekends to such places as Lynton and Lynmouth, Seaton, Sidmouth, National Trust properties etc etc. If you would like to arrange a specific trip with your friends, please contact the office to discuss your ideas.
Queries about the service should be addressed to the staff in the who will be happy to answer any questions you may have. We would like to hear from you at any time if you have ideas which might further improve our service.
Wivey Link is always looking for new volunteer drivers. If you feel you can commit time on a regular basis to keep this valuable service operational, then please contact the Wiveliscombe Community Office for more details.
