- âThe Art of Byzantiumâ by Canon Ian Ainsworth-Smith
- The Christian Roman Empire of the East, centred on Constantinople, survived for over a thousand years, ending in 1453. Ian has a particular interest in Byzantium and its legacy. He will introduce some of the unique themes and styles which characterise Byzantine art and icons in particular. ã !+ Tuesday March 6th at 7.00 pm
- âThe Arab Spring. A Spring or a Winter for Israel?â by Francis Cornish
- Israel used to have some neighbours it could trust - a bit. Now they are watching developments in Egypt, Syria and Libya with deep concern - not to mention Iran, and the collapse of their relationship with Turkey. Are things as bad as they fear? ã !+ Tuesday April 3rd at 7.00 pm
- âEnergy Costs: Renewables Options, Threats and Opportunitiesâ by Mark Clayton, Aardvark EM Ltd
- Energy costs are rising, faster than the rate of inflation. Do you know what your energy bill will be like in 20 years time? What can we do to meet growing energy demands, maintain costs, and keep the lights on? ã !+ Tuesday May 15th at 7.00 pm
- âIn Her Majestyâs Serviceâ by Deborah Bean
- Deborahâs talk covers the duties of The Private Secretary to The Queen and the pattern of a typical Royal year, including travelling to Sandringham, Windsor, Holyroodhouse and Balmoral Castle. Also overseas travel on State Visits and Commonwealth Tours, including time spent on HMY Britannia. The last Private Secretary for whom Deborah worked was Lord Fellowes. ã !+ Tuesday June 12th at 7.00 pm
- âThe National Portrait Galleryâ by Professor Sara Selwood
- Trustees of the National Portrait Gallery are involved in acquisitions, including the acceptance of gifts, agreeing purchases and the commissioning of new portraits. Sara Selwood, who was a trustee of the NPG from 2002-2010, will be discussing this and other aspects of her involvement in the Gallery.
