August Photo Project - 'Black and White'

Our project for September is going to be 'Black and White'. Most of us are so used to photographing in colour that we can easily forget the joys of black and white images. Now the trick here is going to be how to convert your colour images to grayscale. Some digital cameras will have an option to take a black and white image (i.e. do the conversion for you), and others you'll have to do it yourself once you've transferred them to the PC. There is much debate about how to approach greyscale conversion. Most image editors have a 'grayscale' option, but this may not give them contrast and rich blacks and whites that traditional black and white images use. There is also channel mixing and desaturation to play with. Either experiment or search the internet for many of the useful guides on the subject. Perhaps if you have interesting different results, bring along some examples so that we can see how you arrived at your prefered image.

Of course, feel free to bring along images on any theme if you'd like to share them with the group.

Our regular meeting venue is now at The Bear Inn, at the same time, 7:30pm on the last Thursday of the month.

Advanced Notice

The October project will be 'mist and dew'. We choose this ahead of the next meeting as there will be an article in the October edition of the Wiveliscombe Messenger promoting the forum and so we thought it useful to announce the project for the month should it draw in any new members.

Remember that the Photo Forum is for you to share and enjoy your hobby. If there is anything that you would like to see, please let me know and we'll try to get things off the ground. If you have any ideas or thoughts for what to discuss or learn about at a meeting, let me know so that I can announce it to all in advance.

I look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
