Dear Photo Forum Members,

June Photo Project - '10 Parishes and their Doors!'
IMPORTANT: Change of venue for the June meeting ONLY - We will meet at the Three Horseshoes, Langley Marsh, so that we can take a look at the skittle alley and work out how much space we will have for our 10 Parishes Festival exhibition in September. If we are not in the bar area, go down to the skittle alley! If you are intending to exhibit as part of the festival it would be very useful if you can come to this meeting with an idea of the size and number of pictures you will have available.
We are still looking for pictures from the 10 Parishes, and also interesting doors for the door project. I'll repeat what I said last month...
Ok, so this month is all about the 10 Parishes, in general, and also in specifics - their doors. We have in mind to take pictures of as many of the interesting doors in the 10 parishes as our overall project for the 10 Parishes Festival (8-16th Sept 2007). All of the images will be made up into a composite picture showing all of the doors in a grid, perhaps at least 18, and more like 30-40! For this, it would be best if you can take the images from as straight on as possible, in portrait format, leaving a reasonable amount of the surrounding building in the picture to allow for cropping. You should also attempt to take pictures when there is full sunlight, although not if this causes really harsh reflections off of the doors etc. If you take doors in overcast or evening lighting, there might be too much variance in the images to make a pleasing composition.
And whilst your wandering around....
We need a selection of general parish images for each of the 10 Parishes. These should capture something essential about each parish, although obviously in a rural area, many are predominantly fields! But there will be things... e.g. Golden Hill, The Square or the Brewery buildings in Wiveliscombe, Milverton North Street or Church, Brompton Ralph village shop or cricket pitch etc. Most of these images will be cropped to show a panorama, so try to put the horizon quite high in the picture (i.e. the sky won't feature much in the cropped image), and keep the principle interest along a horizontal plane.
And if your wondering, the 10 Parishes are...
Ashbrittle, Bathealton, Brompton Ralph, Chipstable & Waterrow, Clatworthy, Fitzhead, Huish Champflower, Milverton, Stawley, and Wiveliscombe.
PLEASE NOTE: All of the parish pictures are needed by 14th June if they are to be useful for the festival guide. Otherwise, of course treat them as works of art in their own right!
Other matters
Remember that the project each month is just for inspiration. Don't feel like you've failed if you don't find time to capture something on the theme, and of course there is always merit in looking back over past images to see if there is new relevance to them, or maybe a bit of photo editing that might make something new out of something old!
As a group we love to see photo's on any subject, so please feel free to bring along images on any theme if you'd like to share them.
Remember that the Photo Forum is for you to share and enjoy your hobby. If there is anything that you would like to see, please let me know and we'll try to get things off the ground. If you have any ideas or thoughts for what to discuss or learn about at a meeting, let me know so that I can announce it to all in advance.
Our regular meeting venue is now at The Bear Inn, at the same time, 7:30pm on the last Thursday of the month.
I look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
