We aim to promote live music and provide a professional performance venue for local singers and musicians.
It all started in a back room at the Globe Inn Milverton when 5 friends played music every Wednesday evening. As the popularity of the sessions grew they decided that a more structured outlet for both their musical talents and those of fellow musicians in the area was needed. To avoid the ‘folk’ ‘jazz’ or ‘blues’ label it was decided to form a music club, and because the Globe didn’t have the space, the club began in the upper room at the White Hart, in 1996, on the first Friday of the month. On the first night wives made up the audience. The second session, wives and friends, six months later we moved to a bigger venue at the back of the pub. In 1998 after two very successful years we moved from the White Hart to the Victoria Rooms and regularly attract an audience of around 80 for our open mike Friday Nights. Some of these live in and around the village but the majority are drawn from an area encompassing Taunton, Wellington, Exeter, Minehead, Bampton, Bridport, Bridgwater and Yeovil. We have a licence for the guest nights, but on the club sessions, singers and audience are asked to bring their favourite tipple.
We aim to book high quality paid guests five times a year.Special guest nights have featured: - Ralph McTell, Allan Taylor, John Renbourn, Jacqui McShee, Show of Hands, Gordon Giltrap, Mike Silver, Hans Theessink, Five Furious Fish, Fatman Swings, Howlin' at the Moon, Gee Baby I Love You, Bluze the Band, Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman, Eddie Martin, Mary Flower and Michael Roach.
In 2006 there will be be a series of six music workshops on Saturday mornings involving voice, performance techniques, and musicianship.
