| Abstract | Wiveliscombe Community First Responder Group was originally piloted by SOUTH WESTERN AMBULANCE SERVICE NHS TRUST (SWAST) in 2001. SWAST covers Somerset/ Dorset/ Devon/Cornwall and Isles of Scilly and is predominantly rural. So, it is not always possible for an ambulance to reach people in rural areas, such as Wiveliscombe quickly. So, SWAST trains the Community Responder to respond to any life-threatening emergency and deliver appropriate care until the emergency ambulance arrives. Responders are trained in basic life support and are equipped with defibrillators, oxygen, first aid equipment and communications. |
