Mark Leeman and his team in the Forward Plan Unit, Taunton Deane Borough Council, carried out a series of briefing sessions after the Government introduced a new town and country planning system in September 2004.

During September 2005, the team undertook a series of briefing sessions throughout the Deane, aimed at explaining the new planning system in simple terms (the new system is complex if you are new to it). The target audience was Parish Councils, TDBC and SCC councillors, and community field workers. In total, 7 briefing sessions were held, including one at Appley.
