Wiveliscombe Area Website

The Base is a provision for young people aged 11 - 19 situated on the far right hand side of the Kingsmead site as you come in to the grounds. It is currently run by Somerset Youth and Community Service, but with a view to supporting the community to deliver services itself in the near future. All staff are professionally trained youth workers and are CRB checked.

In recent years a great deal has changed and been done to improve the building and create a well equipped safe and comfortable environment in our café area. Café Random @ The Base offers young people the chance to relax and make use of great facilities, as well as the chance to gain skills for their portfolio by taking a leading role in running the café if they want to. The café, and the young people who run it, have achieved official 5 star rating for food, health and hygiene - more than many restaurants!

Also developed over the last few years have been the skills and resources for outdoor pursuits and media projects @ The Base for young people to get involved in. A number of young people have been involved in activity days, courses and residentials and achieved certificates for outdoor skills, campcraft, film making etc. Young people can be involved in all of this through the "Sneaky Fox Outdoors" and "Warm Day Productions" projects - There are a wealth of opportunities for young people to learn, enjoy and have fun in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment.

A new community support group, "10 Communities Youth" (10CY), has been established by parents and young people recently too. Its aim is to support services for young people @ The Base into the future and the group are very keen for people from Wiveliscombe and the surrounding areas to get fully involved and help safeguard and make best use of The Base and its services for the community's children.
